How We Decide Where Every Rescued Sloth Goes Next

The moment a sloth arrives at TSI, our team runs through the same decision process every time. Is the sloth sick or injured? How old is it? Was it found somewhere safe? The answers shape everything that follows, whether a sloth heads straight back out on a soft release, gets resettled exactly where it was found, or begins a longer road through rehabilitation.

Whenever we rescue a sloth, we first need to determine what kind of help it needs and how long it’ll need rehabilitation. Some rescues result in a quick release, and others, like orphans, can take up to two years before release. With every rescue, we want to get sloths back into the wild as quickly as possible. After release, we keep an eye on some sloths’ progress through our Sloth Trax Program.
