As we dive into Slothtober, the international month dedicated to sloth appreciation and conservation, we at TSI are thrilled to celebrate a milestone – our 10th anniversary! Over the past decade, we’ve worked tirelessly to protect sloths and their habitats, and this year, we have five exciting updates to share with our dedicated supporters.
1. New Research Permit: Understanding Sloth Habitats

We’re proud to announce that we’ve secured a new research permit to study sloths in both coastal and inland environments. This research is crucial for understanding how sloths adapt to different habitat changes and identifying which areas need the most protection. One of our beloved sloths, Elsa, who successfully reintegrated into her rainforest home, now plays a vital role in this study. By adopting Elsa, you can directly support this groundbreaking research!
2. Our New Tree Nursery (“Vivero”)

Deforestation poses a significant threat to sloth habitats, which is why we’ve established a baby tree nursery to grow essential tree species for reforestation. Our “Vivero” started with three species, and due to its success, we’re now expanding to include more vital trees. We work closely with private landowners to ensure these trees have a safe place to thrive. Join our “Adopt-A-Tree” program and help us reforest sloth habitats!
3. Over 1000 Meters of Sloth Speedways Installed!

This year, we’ve installed over 1000 meters of “sloth speedways” – rope bridges that allow sloths to safely cross gaps in the forest canopy. With 15 solar-powered camera traps monitoring these bridges, we’re collecting vital data to enhance wildlife connectivity. Your donations can help us install more sloth speedways and camera traps!
4. Continuing Our Rescue and Rehabilitation Efforts

Rescuing and rehabilitating injured and orphaned sloths has been an integral part of our mission. Despite the challenges, our expert care team has successfully aided in the rehabilitation and release of 50 sloths, working closely with a licensed rescue center. Your support can help us keep our rehabilitation efforts strong and ensure sloths receive the care they need.
5. Education and Outreach

Education is key to making lasting change for sloths. We offer nature walks, online sessions, and educational materials like children’s books to promote responsible sloth tourism and coexistence. For the scientific community, we publish our findings and present at conferences to share strategies for sloth conservation.
At TSI, we believe all sloths were born to be wild, and we’re committed to securing a better future for these gentle creatures. Join us in our mission to keep sloths safe, wild, and thriving. Your support makes a world of difference!
