Reconnecting Forests and Reforesting for Sloth Conservation
The Sloth Institute, our mission goes beyond building safe travel routes like our Sloth Speedways (wildlife rope bridges that reconnect fragmented forest). We are also actively engaged in reforestation efforts in Costa Rica, restoring critical habitat for sloths and other arboreal mammals.
In early 2024, we launched the TSI Tree Nursery, a dedicated program focused on growing and planting native trees in areas previously destroyed by agriculture or tourism development. Since then, we’ve already planted 935 native trees, and our goal for 2025 is to plant thousands more to restore sloth habitat and promote biodiversity.
But reforestation for sloths is about more than just planting trees. We carefully select native species that provide essential food sources and shelter specifically for sloths and other tree-dwelling wildlife. Every tree planted is a step toward rebuilding healthy ecosystems and securing a future for sloths in the wild.
